I read this novel over twenty years ago and it started two decades of reading Vietnam war literature. It is the only Nam novel I have read as I moved on to autobiographies. I decided to re read it as I remembered loving it all those years back and although I dont have the imagination of a teenage boy anymore it is still an exciting read. The story is OTT but that is not the point, it is fun and gripping to read, your relationship with the characters developes nicely and you end up feeling concern for them and their survival.

The book falls flat in the 1st paragraph! All SAS soldiers wear sand colourd berets, they wouldn't be seen dead in any other colour. Apart from that, not a bad read, more like a cartoon than a factual account though.
